Snowdonia Marathon: 27 Oct 2018

Run 4 Cancer - About Us

Set up by a team of running enthusiasts, all of whom have lost a family member or a friend to cancer, Run 4 Cancer is a provider of days out and short-breaks for British families affected by cancer.

We also make grants to UK based care institutions and fund research into the positive effects of exercise (e.g. running) and how it can help with cancer prevention and recovery.

Snowdonia Marathon 2018

The Snowdonia Marathon is widely regarded as one of the most difficult marathons in Europe. It has also been voted best marathon in the UK by Runners World Magazine in 2007 and 2011.

The race takes place in some of the UK's most spectacular scenery - the route itself encircles Mount Snowdon.

Two thousand runners took part in 2012. A similar number is expected in 2018!

The Route

Snowdonia Marathon Logo

Starting just outside of the village of Llanberis, the course is challenging from the start. Runners turn onto the hilly A4086 after a traffic-free 3 mile stretch on the ancient Nant Gwynant road towards Pen-y-Gwryd.

The route then takes runners along the A498 to Beddgelert from where they continue along the A4085 to Waunfawr. It is then a rapid climb up to Bwlch y Groesa at about 1,200ft before heading downhill to the finish line in Llanberis.

Snowdonia Marathon Route Profile

Runners are advised to consider the cold that they may experience during the race and should carry additional layers with them on the run.
