BOOT vs BOAT

11 May 2016

Leaving Tower Bridge at 10.30am on Saturday the 31st of August, two teams will race from London to Brighton to raise funds for Run 4 Cancer and its sister charity Sail 4 Cancer.

However, this will be no ordinary race!  One team will run / walk and the other will sail.  The first team to reach the end of Brighton Pier will be the winner!

We’ve done the maths and it should be a close race.  Both teams are expected to complete the challenge in around 24 hours.

The Sailors

The team of sailors will cover 140 miles by sea in a Sunsail F40 rocket ship! A development of the Beneteau First 40, the F40 is the ultimate performance racer having won ‘Crossover Boat Of The Year’ as well as taking both first and second in the IRC division of the Rolex Sydney to Hobart race. Find out more about the F40 here!

The Runners

Departing from London Bridge, the Run 4 Cancer team will travel approximately 60 miles overland – with a few checkpoints and diversions thrown in to make things interesting! There will also be a compulsory rest stops at the mid-way point to help the team manage the fatigue.

Costs & Sponsorship

To help cover the cost of yacht charter, sailors will be asked to pay a registration fee of £100 and raise a minimum sponsorship fund of £500. The walkers or runners will be asked to pay a registration free of £50 and raise a minimum sponsorship fund of £250.
