Berlin Marathon 2023

The Berlin marathon is one of the largest and most popular road races in the world. In 2019 the race had 44,064 finishers from 107 countries around the world. In addition, there were more than one million spectators dotted around the course!

First run in 1974, the event traditionally takes place on the last weekend in September. More world records have been set on the Berlin course than anywhere else due to its flat profile and mild autumn temperatures. Berlin is one of only four marathons that regularly sees more than 40,000 finishers (the others being New York, Chicago and Paris).

The Route

Originally only run in West Berlin, when the city was divided, the fast and flat course now weaves back and forth across the former Berlin Wall. The marathon ends with all racers passing through the Brandenburg Gate. The Berlin Marathon is a memorable way to run through history while touring the city’s iconic landmarks!

Set up by a team of running enthusiasts, all of whom have lost a family member or a friend to cancer, Run 4 Cancer is primarily a provider of days out and short-breaks for British families affected by cancer. We give families something to look forward to during the most difficult of times. We also make grants to UK based care institutions and support research into the positive effects of exercise (e.g. running) and how it can help with cancer prevention and recovery.
