Shakespeare Marathon 2027

The Shakespeare Marathon and Half Marathon is a well established road race set in the historic market town of Stratford-upon-Avon. Known for its friendly, low-key atmosphere and well-organised support, this is a picturesque running event with a traditional feel.

The Shakespeare Marathon & Half Marathon attracts around 3,000 runners across both distances on race day. The total entries are strictly capped at 3,000 people and the event often sells out very early. To secure your place on the Run 4 Cancer team, “lead on MacBeth!”

The Route

Starting and finishing near the Royal Shakespeare Theatre, runners of both the Full Marathon and Half Marathon compete on the same 13.1 mile looped course. Half marathon runners complete one complete circuit whereas full marathon runners complete two. The scenic course takes runners through the town’s Tudor streets before heading out into the peaceful Warwickshire countryside. The course combines scenic riverside paths, stretches along the Stratford Greenway and undulating rural lanes. Half-marathon runners turn into the finish after the first circuit, whereas marathon runners head back out for a second identical lap, making the marathon feel quieter and more challenging on the second loop as the field thins and fatigue sets in.

We have a number of subsidised places available. All we ask is that you try to raise £550.00 sponsorship funds in support of Run 4 Cancer. We set very low minimum sponsorship funds and fully understand that the cost of living crisis is impacting people’s ability to sponsor people.

Set up by a team of running enthusiasts, all of whom have lost a family member or a friend to cancer, Run 4 Cancer is primarily a provider of days out and short-breaks for British families affected by cancer. We give families something to look forward to during the most difficult of times. We also make grants to UK based care institutions and support research into the positive effects of exercise (e.g. running) and how it can help with cancer prevention and recovery.
