ABP Newport Wales Marathon 2027

Launched by former Olympic marathon runner Steve Brace in 2018, the Newport Wales Marathon (sponsored by ABP Ports) has become Wales’ largest marathon.  Widely regarded as one of the flattest marathon routes in the world, nearly 70% of all finishers claim to have achieved a PB (Personal Best) on this course.  As a direct consequence of this, the Newport Marathon is ranked within the Top 10 of the Fastest Marathons In The World.

Although primarily a marathon event, there are a number of shorter distances also on offer so that people of different abilities can take part.  These include a Half Marathon, 10 Km and a series of junior races.  This flexibility makes it appealing to recreational runners, first-timers, charity runners, and seasoned marathoners alike.

The Route

The single loop course starts and finishes on the Newport riverfront.  After the start, runners pass through the historic city centre and out past the University of South Wales. You will also run past other famous including the Victorian-style market and castle.  After the city portion, runners continue through modern developments (e.g. The International Sports Village) before transitioning on to flat coastal countryside. The wetlands / marshlands of the Gwent Levels and the peaceful wetlands of the Goldcliff / Redwick area are always popular too. Near the end of the course, runners are treated to views of the iconic Newport Transporter Bridge before finishing back on the riverfront.

We give families something to look forward to during the most difficult of times. We also make grants to UK based care institutions and support research into the positive effects of exercise (e.g. running) and how it can help with cancer prevention and recovery.
