Southampton Marathon 2027

First held in 1982, the Southampton Marathon was one of the most popular running events on the UK calendar in the 1980s. Sadly though, the event organisers were unable to continue with the operation and the event lay dormant for nearly 30 years. However in 2017, the event made a stunning comeback!

Sponsored by ABP (Associated British Ports), the Marathon is once again back firmly on the UK running calendar. In addition to a Full Marathon, there is also a Half Marathon plus a 10K and a 5K. The combined event is the biggest running event in the city’s history and the event regularly attracts over 10,000 participants. The event has a festival atmosphere and is very well supported by local residents.

The Route(s)

You can choose from the Full Marathon (26.2 Miles / 42 Km), Half Marathon (13.1 Miles / 21.1 Km), 10 Km, 5 Km or the Mile Fun Run. All races start at Dock Gate 8 (City Cruise Terminal), except the Mile Fun Run, which starts on Above Bar Street. The finish line for all the main courses is Guildhall Square in central Southampton.

Depending on the route chosen, runners move through Southampton’s stunning waterfront, vibrant city streets and legendary landmarks like the Itchen Bridge. The longer routes (Half and Full Marathon) also span riverside parkland, university areas and green spaces such as Southampton Common. Runners will also also run through the grounds of St Mary’s Football Stadium (the home of Southampton Football Club).

We have a number of free and subsidised places available. All we ask is that you try to raise some sponsorship funds in support of Run 4 Cancer. We set very low minimum sponsorship levels and fully understand that the cost of living crisis is impacting people’s ability to sponsor people. Run 4 Cancer - About Us

Set up by a team of running enthusiasts, all of whom have lost a family member or a friend to cancer, Run 4 Cancer is primarily a provider of days out and short-breaks for British families affected by cancer. We give families something to look forward to during the most difficult of times. We also make grants to UK based care institutions and support research into the positive effects of exercise (e.g. running) and how it can help with cancer prevention and recovery.
