Set up by a team of running enthusiasts, all of whom have lost a family member or a friend to cancer, Run 4 Cancer is a provider of days out and short-breaks for British families affected by cancer.
We also make grants to UK based care institutions and support research into the positive effects of exercise (e.g. running) and how it can help with cancer prevention and recovery. Run 4 Cancer is a standalone Division of the 4 Cancer Group.
The first Virgin London Marathon took place in 2010, having previously been sponsored by Flora and later Virgin.
The London Marathon is extremely popular and is always massively over-subscribed.
The event is watched by millions of TV viewers every year and is the largest charity event outside of America.
Sunday 2 October 2022
The London Marathon starts in Greenwich Park before passing the Thames Barrier and the Cutty Sark. Runners then continue towards Bermondsy and Tower Bridge, which they cross before turning right towards Canary Wharf. After passing Limehouse, at the 20-mile point, runners will pass the Tower of London. Participants then run along the Embankment, past the Houses of Parliament and Nelson's Column. The final 500m takes runners along Birdcage Walk, past Buckingham Palace and over the finish line on Pall Mall.
