Michael Green’s 26.2 Miles

17 March 2011

Cancer has affected Michael Green’s life no less than nine times and he wanted a way in which he could contribute and help support those that are affected by this indiscriminate disease.

Having recently been introduced to sailing by his good friend Mr James Cole who is one of the principal Directors of Cruise118.com and having got ‘the sailing bug’ and a passion for sailing (he is studying for his Day Skipper qualification) Sail 4 Cancer and Run 4 Cancer became his charities of choice to raise money for in 2011.

Michael was fortunate to obtain an individual place in last year’s Virgin London Marathon and with the support of his employer, Maxxium UK Ltd, was able to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

He was not lucky enough to get an individual place through the ballot this year but having been given the opportunity to run in the 2011 Virgin London Marathon through Sail 4 Cancer, (although notice came through a little late meaning that the training must really start in earnest), Michael will be able to contribute towards raising the vital funds that will help those affected by cancer to have the opportunities to escape the stresses that a diagnosis and treatment regimes can bring upon a family and the individual.

Commenting on running the marathon in aid of Run 4 Cancer, Michael explained:

“By raising as much money as possible I will be contributing in some small part to helping others have some quality time together, perhaps help them build new confidence, learn a new skill, get a passion for sailing but most of all perhaps I can help someone create some treasured memories.”

“As one in three of us will be affected by cancer at some stage of our lives it’s the least that I can do to challenge myself to complete the Virgin London Marathon, all 26.2miles of it and raise lots of money for Sail 4 Cancer / Run 4 Cancer and perhaps even beat my personal best time of 4hrs 19mins and 37secs.”

“I hope that you feel inspired to make a donation or perhaps even hold an event of your own to help raise money for this worthwhile cause.”
