Set up by a team of running enthusiasts, all of whom have lost a family member or a friend to cancer, Run 4 Cancer is primarily a provider of days out and short-breaks for British families affected by cancer.
We also make grants to UK based care institutions and support research into the positive effects of exercise (e.g. running) and how it can help with cancer prevention and recovery.
So the Run 4 Cancer walking team completed the Cotswolds Way Challenge in a very respectable time of 24 hours and 15 minutes. I say respectable given the fact that this was by far and away the hardest route of all of the challenges taken on so far - loads of very steep hills, rough terrain and a hot sun beating down solidly for around 14 hours with the temperature averaging 29 degrees! This one was brutal.
The guys have been recovering but only for a couple of weeks since the next walk is looming large on the horizon. The Jurassic Coast Challenge starts at 9.30am on Saturday 21st July - another 100km walk which covers the coastal route from Poole in Dorset before heading inland (and uphill!) to finish in Bridport, hopefully 24 hours later.
BREAKING NEWS: GUEST WALKER - NICOLA JOHNSON
For the Jurassic Coast Walk we will be joined by Nicola Johnson, which explains our team name for this one "Three Men and a Lady!" This will be Nicola's first Ultra Challenge and she's naturally a bit nervous about what lies ahead, especially after hearing some of the stories and seeing the state of our feet! Nicola says "I'm only doing this because Chris Roberts has convinced me it will be fun - a nice gentle walk along the stunning Dorset coastline (I'm not sure I believe him!) Having now seen the route the reality is hitting home, however when I heard about the fantastic work that the 4 Cancer Group do, the short term pain will be more than worth it if I can help raise some much needed funds!"
Cancer is something that affects far too many people and if, by raising some much needed funds to provide respite for sufferers and their families, we can manage to put a smile on the faces of a few people then our efforts will be rewarded!"
